Last night I started the movie Julie & Julia, and today I was able to finish it. First of all, I highly recommend seeing this. I don’t think a movie has ever motivated me so much to work on something that interests me. The minute the film was over, I rushed over to Borders to pick up a copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, by Julia Child. After my Borders trip I ran next door to Trader Joe’s to pick up some fresh, delicious things to cook for dinner (steak, potatoes, & string beans). I think most people would be pretty worn out after going to the gym way before anyone should have to be up, having work all day, driving home, finishing a movie, going to the bookstore, grocery store, & cooking dinner. But, I still felt some adrenaline running through my body (thanks to the movie), so I decided to make homemade Strawberry Shortcake. Whenever Summer rolls around, I always seem to crave this sweet treat. On Emily Schuman’s blog, Cupcakes & Cashmere, she happened to post a recipe for this satisfying goody. I made everything from scratch: the biscuits, whipped cream, & the sugary strawberries. I must say I was very pleased with how everything came out. It wasn’t too sweet, but it was just enough to make my sweet tooth go away… at least for the night. This is the perfect dessert to whip up for company, because it is fresh, healthy (okay, I don’t know about that), and delicious. Bon Appétit!
