Sharon Maloney

Today in my styling class we were very lucky to have a guest speaker come talk to us: Sharon Maloney. She was a very friendly, down to earth gal, who is a fabulous stylist. I was very inspired and impressed with her portfolio. She seemed to have worked in so many different areas of the fashion world from Elle Magazine to doing editorials. A lot of people in the fashion industry have a snotty type of attitude, as if they are better than you. I did not get this feeling from Sharon whatsoever. She wasn’t trying to be someone she wasn’t, and she seemed like a normal person, which is so fresh to see in an industry filled with fake people. A lot of stylists do work to show what edgy high fashion is, and they don’t focus on actual real people, and wearable items. Sharon had a nice balance of both, which I think is an important skill to have. Ms. Maloney gave some great advice and tips on how to be prepared for a shoot. It was hilarious to see her walk into the classroom lugging an oversized case, which was almost the size of her filled with styling tools. It was like Mary Poppins bag, filled with never-ending goodies!  I bet you all are thinking: styling tools, what type of tools are needed to dress a model? Let me tell you, a lot more goes into styling a shoot than you might think. It is a very draining, but fun job. Make sure to check out her website, she is truly talented. I hope that one day I will be able to make myself as successful as her.
